Honest timing
A high-resolution clock, re-stamped to the exact frame the panel paints green. We do not count our own rendering lag against you, and we do not inflate scores to flatter you.
Our craft
One signal. One response. Measured well.
Wait for green, react, repeat. Getting that loop timed honestly is the whole job.

What we make
reactiontimetest.lol is a single-player tool for measuring simple visual reaction time. A panel turns from red to green after a random wait; the timer runs from the green paint until your click, tap, or key press. Five clean attempts are averaged into a score in milliseconds, and your fastest single attempt is kept as your best.
There is no download and no account. The test is the web page. Your best time, attempt count, lifetime average, and a rolling history live in local browser storage on the device you used, and never leave it.
If you are comparing this to another reaction test you found elsewhere, this page only speaks for reactiontimetest.lol. The controls, scoring, and benchmarks described in our how-it-works guide and FAQ match this build exactly.
Our story
The test is old and well understood. What we bring is a careful implementation and plain-language context for the number it produces.
Simple visual reaction time has been studied since the 19th century — Franciscus Donders timed mental processes with it in the 1860s. The "wait for the light, then respond" method is still the standard because it isolates one thing: how quickly a seen signal becomes a movement, with no choice to slow it down.
The click-when-it-turns-green format became the popular online form of the test, and millions of people now use it to compare themselves against a rough human median of around 273 ms. Most implementations are accurate enough; the weak points are cluttered interfaces and no guidance on what the number means.
reactiontimetest.lol is an independent take built to fix those weak points: frame-accurate timing, a clean five-attempt round, a plain-language rating scale, honest notes on how your monitor and mouse affect the result, and nothing to sign up for.
What we stand for
A high-resolution clock, re-stamped to the exact frame the panel paints green. We do not count our own rendering lag against you, and we do not inflate scores to flatter you.
One attempt is noise. The result you keep is the average of five clean attempts, with your fastest single attempt shown alongside it.
Best time, attempt count, and history live in your browser. No account, no upload, no leaderboard pressure — just your own trend over time.
The page is static HTML with one small interactive panel. It loads instantly, has no ads breaking a round, and gets out of the way.
Who it is for
It is a single-player tool with no chat and no store. It is a poor fit if you want a global leaderboard or a full cognitive battery. It is a good fit if you want an honest, repeatable reaction time check.
A quick, repeatable check you can run before a session and track week to week. The rating scale is calibrated to where competitive players actually land.
Take five attempts, see how you compare to the average person, and read a straight answer about what would and would not make the number faster.
Testing the effect of sleep, caffeine, training, or recovery from an injury. The lifetime average and history are there so a trend is visible, not just one lucky click.
Why this site
The reaction time test is a well-worn idea with hundreds of versions online. This one exists to be the accurate, well-explained, ad-light option.
The green moment is re-stamped to the actual screen paint via requestAnimationFrame, so React render and commit time is excluded from your reaction. Many clones time from a state change that happens a frame or more before you see anything.
Every result comes with a rating and a comparison to the median, and the guide pages explain display latency, input lag, warm-up, and age effects in plain terms.
No autoplay video ads, no "install our app" interstitials, no fake urgency around the mute button. The panel is the product.
How we build
Every content page is pre-rendered to static HTML so it loads fast and is fully crawlable. Only the test panel itself is interactive. Timing uses the browser's high-resolution clock and is re-stamped to the real screen paint. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps visitors — never to gate the test behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one our guide pages describe, so search results and the live test never drift apart.
Desktop and mobile share the same panel. Click, tap, or press Space — whatever suits the device in your hand.
Best time, attempts, and history are stored locally. You own the continuity of your trend without signing up.
We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and clarity. Details are in our Privacy Policy — never a sales pitch.
